On Reflection
2026
Magazine paper on plywood
Size of image - 24" x 18"
Sunset Pond in the North Chagrin Reservation is one of my favorite places to visit in winter. In this piece, I wanted to capture the calm and stillness of the landscape as daylight begins to fade. The bare trees reflected in the quiet water create a peaceful, contemplative scene that encourages viewers to slow down and take a moment for reflection.

This artwork will be featured in The Idiom Show, an exhibition of idiom-inspired works by four Northeast Ohio artists, on view from September 4 through September 26, 2026, at Second April Gallery in Canton, Ohio.
Hidden from view for years, the intricate channels left behind beneath the bark of a fallen tree are revealed only after the bark peels away.
The title, Coming Out of the Woodwork, is interpreted literally, referring to the emergence of these hidden markings. The piece invites viewers to look more closely and discover the unexpected beauty concealed within the natural world.

The graceful curve of a Great Blue Heron's neck offers a playful twist on the idiom Ahead of the Curve. Known for its striking profile and elegant silhouette, the heron has long been one of my favorite birds.
Inspired by countless encounters along local rivers and wetlands, the piece celebrates the beauty found in both nature and language.

Behind Closed Doors - Station Hope
2026
Paper, twist ties & tissue paper on plywood
Size of image - 25 1/2" x 17 1/2"
This artwork will be featured in The Idiom Show, an exhibition of idiom-inspired works by four Northeast Ohio artists, on view from September 4 through September 26, 2026, at Second April Gallery in Canton, Ohio.
Station Hope reflects the powerful history of St. John’s Episcopal Church in Ohio City as a stop on the Underground Railroad. Standing near Lake Erie, Cleveland became a final passage to freedom, as many who escaped slavery made their way across the water to Canada. For me, this place holds a quiet weight—it’s a reminder of the courage of those seeking freedom and the compassion of those who helped them along the way.

I do love a raccoon! We noticed this one in the fading sunlight before he saw us, ambling along happily just off the trail—likely with a full belly after raiding the trash cans at Squire’s Castle. We watched him for a good half-minute before he finally noticed us.

This particular White Water Lily was on Corning Lake at The Holden Arboretum. They can also be found along the Chagrin River’s calm backwaters. While the river’s main flow is too fast for them to thrive, wetland areas and oxbow lakes provide suitable habitats.
For this piece, I used tissue paper (recycled from gift bags) layered over magazine paper to tone down the blue-green background and soften the contrast with the flower.

After the Rain

'After the Rain' captures the top of Chapin Forest along the small dirt trail by the Sharon Conglomerate ledges. I love how everything deepens in color after a summer rainstorm: the tree trunks darken to almost black, and the leaves glow with a vibrant, lush green.

Henry Church Steps
2024
Paper & tissue paper on plywood
Size of image - 24" x 16 1/2"
Size of framed artwork - 25 1/2" x 18"
Henry Church Jr., a self-taught artist from Chagrin Falls, is locally renowned for his rock carvings in the South Chagrin Reservation. I’ve titled this piece Henry Church Steps as this is where the trail ascends from the river near Henry Church Rock back to the top of the valley. I’m drawn to the uneven stone steps twisting up the rock face carpeted in the vibrant autumn leaves, contrasting against the deep greens of the fir in the background.

Size of framed artwork - 25 1/2" x 21 1/2"
Sunset Pond in the North Chagrin Reservation is a favorite place to while away the time and watch for wildlife. We’re often caught by the early darkness in the winter, though under a full moon it can feel as bright as day. The moonlight can cast stunning shadows and reflections, bringing a serene beauty to the landscape.

Brown Trout
2023
Paper, tissue paper and wallpaper on wood panel
Size of image - 11 x 14"
Size of framed artwork - 12" x 15"
Brown Trout are not native to the Chagrin River, although the Chagrin River’s cool water, particularly in its upper and middle stretches, provides suitable conditions for these fish. They rely on stocking rather than natural reproduction to sustain their population in the area.
This piece was inspired by a photo I took at The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago.
